So I wanted to use a palette for Black Fury that stayed true to the original, but the new Black Terror at Dynamite has already taken it! To be fair, one of the characters was a clone of the other back in the day anyway. I think Black Terror did come first.
Anyway, I decided to use his color patterns as part of his modern body armor, which also has some modern pattern/texture to it. I armed him with some Colt 1911 pistols which would be hand-me-downs from his grandfather.
I also -- possibly controversially though not intententionally -- made the character African American. I thought it interesting to make him a legacy character. His grandfather put on his guns and pistols to fit crime as 'The Fury' in the 1950s, but the media began calling him 'The Black Fury' because of their racist bent. Black Fury is a name that would continue to piss our hero off today as he battles not jut just street crime but social injustice.
So that meant playing around with the color of his uniform, and guess what? Everything else sucked. Navy blue, gray, even red, nothing looked appropriately enough like the original character to be a re-design without being a full 'dump and redress.'
I also hate that snap-over flap on his chest. It interferes with the skull.

Some of the problem here is that he's against a black background, which makes the costume details difficult to see. Why not keep the red cape? The red bands on the legs of the original could easily become gun holster ... uh, ties?
